FACES 2 - DUO SHOW Caroline SICHEL et Milan MEDIC

Dans une rue isolée du 6ème arrondissement de Paris, derrière une immense porte cochère en bois, au fond d’une cour, un vernissage se préparait. Caroline SICHEL exposait en duo et son mari, ami d’enfance, m’avait invité.
Je découvre les œuvres récentes de Caroline, ses petits hommes aux corps ronds, taillés dans le bois blond qu’elle privilégiait alors. Cette série m’amuse et j’imagine que ce personnage, seul ou en groupe, a bien des choses à dire et à raconter. Puis je l’oublie. D’où ma surprise de le voir apparaître quelques mois plus tard dans le dossier de Caroline pour FACES n°2.
Cette fois, il est blanc, noir et parfois couvert de rouge, et marche sur des œufs et fonce vers des grenades, il est pris au piège de la toile (le World Wild Web) et de son mobile collé à son oreille (…).
Caroline semble avoir trouvé sa voie en s’éloignant de l’abstrait pour créer des œuvres pleines de références mythologiques ou contemporaines.
Elle sculpture avec douceur une certaine inquiétude d’un monde qui « uniformise », qui « castre », qui écrase, qui « invente les valeurs ». Bref, d’un monde qui doit se réveiller. Finalement, ce petit personnage est révolutionnaire et Caroline SICHEL va continuer à nous titiller.

In an isolated street in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, behind a huge wooden carriage entrance, at the end of a courtyard, an opening was being prepared. Caroline SICHEL exhibited as a duo and her husband, a childhood friend, invited me.
I am discovering Caroline's recent works, her little men with round bodies, carved from the blond wood that she favored then. I am entertained by this series and imagine that this character, alone or in a group, has a lot to say and to tell. Then I forget about it. Hence my surprise to see him appear a few months later in Caroline's file for FACES # 2.
This time, he is white, black and sometimes covered with red, and walks on eggshells and rushes towards grenades, he is trapped by the web (the World Wild Web) and his mobile stuck to his ear (...) .
Caroline seems to have found her way by moving away from the abstract to create works full of mythological or contemporary references.
She gently carves a certain concern for a world which "standardizes", which "castrates", which crushes, which "invents values". In short, a world that must wake up. Finally, this little character is revolutionary and Caroline SICHEL will continue to titillate us.

Milan Medic
Milan MEDIC fait son chemin. Sensible, il se retourne parfois à la recherche d’encouragements, de coups de pouces, d’échanges, mais il continue, sûr de son rôle et de son destin. Ainsi, il n’a pas peur d’être montré du doigt, au contraire, car si son travail fait réagir, c’est qu’il est vu, et s’il est vu, cela fera son chemin à son tour.
Au fil des mois, après notre premier rendez-vous plutôt déconcertant, j’ai découvert un individu fier et touchant.
Milan MEDIC travaille inlassablement, il peint, colle, sculpte, dessine et souvent, également, coupe, grave, moule et partage. Le travail de Milan est, pour moi, à rapprocher de celui d’un sociologue, voire même d’un ethnologue, qui n’irait pas chercher dans des lieux lointains et isolés des sujets de recherche. Milan nous parle crûment de nous, comme un scientifique. L’artiste, informaticien de formation, s’intéresse aux faits bruts, à leur mécanique, pas de maquillage, pas de formulation ou de circonvolution habile pour donner un visage acceptable à son quotidien, au nôtre, au vôtre, c’est brut et donc souvent brutal et presque insoutenable, certainement excessif. Pour Milan MEDIC, dans notre Monde, les premiers, les plus forts, les plus malins sont toujours les mieux servis. Il propose donc certaines de ses œuvres à la coupe. Mais quel morceau choisir, puisque chacun contient un Frankenstein de notre déshumanité, qu’il voit grasse et bouffie ? Comment ne prendre qu’un bout, alors que l’on veut tout et refuse de partager ? La démonstration est faite, c’est « tout ou rien » ! Pourtant, l’idée plait.
Sa série « Comme des blancs » est fascinante, surtout ce portrait d’africain dont le visage est blanchi par un code-barres, à l’inverse de ce que feraient les barreaux d’une prison sur un visage pâle. Brillant !
Puis, il change de sujet, après la société de consommation, il peint les réseaux sociaux. Cinglant !
Certains voient dans son travail celui de Freud, moi j’y trouve celui d’un Brueghel, d’un Matthias Grünewald, ou dans un autre genre artistique, Michael Moore. Milan MEDIC est un artiste à découvrir et les premiers seront les mieux servis. Prenez-en un morceau et n’ayez pas peur de partager (…)

Milan MEDIC is gaining ground. Sensitive, he sometimes turns around in search of encouragement, nudges, exchanges, but he continues, sure of his role and his destiny. Thus, he is not afraid of being singled out, on the contrary, because if his work causes a reaction, it is because he is seen, and if he is seen, it will in turn make its way.
Over the months, after our rather disconcerting first date, I discovered a proud and touching individual.
Milan MEDIC works tirelessly, he paints, glues sculpts, draws, and often also cuts, engraves, molds and shares. The work of Milan is, for me, to be compared to that of a sociologist, or even an ethnologist, who would not seek research subjects in distant and isolated places. Milan talks about us bluntly, like a scientist. The artist, a computer scientist by training, is interested in raw facts, their mechanics, no makeup, no formulation or clever convolution to give an acceptable face to his daily life, ours, yours, it's raw and therefore often brutal and almost unbearable, certainly excessive. For Milan MEDIC, in our world, the first, the strongest, the smartest are always the best served. He, therefore, offers some of his works by cutting. But which track to choose, since each contains a Frankenstein of our inhumanity, which they see fat and puffy? How do you take just one end, when you want everything and refuse to share? The demonstration is made, it's "all or nothing"! Still, the idea is appealing.
His series "Comme des Blancs" is fascinating, especially this portrait of an African whose face is whitened by a barcode, unlike what the bars of prison would do on a pale face. Brilliant!
Then, he changes the subject, after the consumer society, he paints social networks. Scathing!
Some see in his work that of Freud, I find that of a Brueghel, of a Matthias Grünewald, or in another artistic genre, Michael Moore. Milan MEDIC is an artist to discover and the first will be the best served. Take a piece of it and don't be afraid to share (...)
