DUHAYER Carole (France)
Carole Duhayer lives and works in Paris. She was born in 1978. She travelled throughout Europe and the United States before studying Design at the Nissim School in Camondo (Paris). She also studied painting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts (Paris).
It was when she visited Serge Poliakoff’s exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art that she had a strong aesthetic shock. The second shock happened at the Alhambra of Granada and its Moorish architecture, its lace drawing in the stone. She then started to produce a series of drawings. A few months later, she presented them in a collective exhibition that was held all summer at the Gallery Couteron, rue Guénégaud Paris 6th.
Her diploma from the Ecole Camondo (Paris, 2005) probably played an important role as she now still experiments the concepts of colour, space and form. She combines these mediums in the same formal research, around the pattern and the ornament while questioning the decorative reinterpretation claimed by Paul Klee or Henry Matisse. Her art work also extends to design, a medium that gave her the opportunity to collaborate with Philippe Starck, Tino Zervudachi, Gilles & Boissier among others on international projects, as well as with Samsung in design and aeronautics.
Her plastic researches create a dialogue between the scientific and artistic world in a methodical and synthetic approach. The plant, the cell, the growth inspire her to create drawings with ornamental forms. Forms and colours are articulated around a search for movement. A dynamic drawing is a narration of the pictorial pattern dancing his way to the form.
Carole Duhayer refers to the mechanics of desire where the balance between forms and colours is subtle and infinite. Color as a pattern for developing pictorial poetry, color as a subtle hybridization between baroque and minimalism...
